Monday Mix: St. Patrick’s Day Blog Hop
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Since I’m a good part Irish, I love celebrating the holiday. I grew up associating this special day of the year with corned beef and cabbage, a meal that’s always on the menu in my house on March 17th.
I also always wear green today. Some years I dressed in it almost from head to toe, especially when I was still in grade school. But even now, I make sure to wear a little something to show the color. My green token of choice is a small shamrock pin with a tiny pearl that my mother gave me years ago.
When it comes to St. Patrick’s Day, I consider everyone an honorary Irishman!
What about you? Do you celebrate the holiday? And do you have another special day during the year to honor your heritage?
~~~~~~~~~~
I’m extending the St. Patrick’s Day festivities for a full week by participating in a blog hop with lots of other authors and giveaways.
The Blog Hop is hosted by Gin’s Book Notes and Candace’s Book Blog.
I’m giving away prizes to three winners. Each winner will receive an autographed paper copy of both of the following books:
Family Matters – to continue the St. Patrick’s Day theme. As the heroine comes from a large Irish family, this contemporary romance is perfect for the holiday celebration. (If you’re on Facebook, check out my #TeaserTuesday on 3-18 for a peek at this book.)
Here’s what RT Book Reviews said about Family Matters:
“Rapier wit, good hearted interference on all sides and eccentric characters make Daille’s entry a first-class romantic read.”
– 4 1/2 stars TOP PICK – RT Book Reviews
RT Book Reviews Reviewers’ Choice Award Nominee
A Rancher’s Pride – the first of my books set in Flagman’s Folly.
And a clip from Romance Junkies about A Rancher’s Pride:
“A beautifully written story packed with love, conflict, charismatic characters and an intriguing plot, this is a story you will want to read more than once. Talented author Barbara White Daille reaches for the heart and touches it in A RANCHER’S PRIDE! Do not miss it!”
– 4.5 blue ribbons – Dottie, Romance Junkies
I have a wee little Irish in me LOL
I wear green and I try and talk my whole family into wearing it.
I’ve always heard if you don’t wear green you can get pinched
Beth – I’ve never heard that about getting pinched! Maybe because all these years, I’ve never gone without wearing green. It’s ingrained in me. LOL
Have a great St. Patrick’s Day!
Barbara
Celebrate it by eating corned beef
That will work!
Thanks so much for participating in the hop!
I love traditions and holidays! I celebrate St. Patricks day by wearing green and encouraging others to do the same, I make Irish dishes for dinner, I bake Irish goodies, I hang Shamrocks, I watch Irish movies.
My heritage celebrates Pioneer Day on July 24th!
I would love to read/review the books!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Barbara!
We always have corned beef and veggies in the slow cooker for the holiday. And I grew up with the ‘don’t wear green and get pinched’ rule at school. LOL I also tried to wear something orange since my family were Orangemen. Not Northern Catholic Irish, but Southern Protestant Irish. 😉
St. Patrick’s Day is generally spent at our local microbrewary. I’m not Irish, I just like beer!
I’m not Irish, but I love celebrating different holidays. So yes, we make corned beef with boiled cabbage, turnips & potatoes. And yes, we wear green. This year both kids wore beaded green faux ties 🙂
A big thanks to you and Gin for hosting us, too, Candace.
–bad pun alert– I need to get hopping later today and go do some visitin’. 😉
Hi, Lu – it certainly sounds like you have all the bases covered. 😉
And how nice to have another holiday to celebrate over the summer.
I’m glad you like the sound of the books. Will be in touch once I wrap up the blog hop. Thanks for your interest!
Marcy, as I’d said to someone else, I don’t ever recall hearing that rule, probably because I never had to worry about forgetting to wear green. LOL
We always do our corned beef on the stove. I should try to find directions to make it in the slow cooker. I’m betting that not cooking it in a full pot of water helps it retain a lot of the flavor.
LOL, Elise-Maria! The day certainly gives lots of people that great excuse, doesn’t it? 😉
Mina – thanks for stopping by!
I’ve never tried the corned beef with turnips. My mom liked to add them to stew, but the one and only time I tried to put a turnip in a stew, I almost broke my arm. Those things are hard to cut!
I’ll bet your kids looked adorable.
I am not Irish, however, I always wear something green on that day. I admire them for celebrating their culture and heritage and getting others to celebrate with them.
i do celebrate st. Patricks day. i wake up and make the kids green pancakes, i make rainbow cup cakes for dessert, and we all wear green.
Joye – I like it, too, that the day is an all-inclusive holiday.
Christina – I’m not too sure about green pancakes, but I’ll bet your kids love them. I’d be very happy with the cupcakes, though. 😉
Wearing something green!
That’s the way to join in!
I am not Irish but my hubby’s family is. We usually celebrate with a family dinner but his parents moved away this year. We will probably get together late spring and have a late St Patty’s dinner.
I’m Irish & my whole family wears green,… like Beth meantioned above, u don’t wear green u get pinched lol. I don’t ever get pinched. =) And I always have to get my Shamrock Shake from McDonalds bcuz it’s the only time I can get the shake! =(
Julia – that’s one of the nice things about blending a couple of families – twice the fun for holidays.
That’s great that you’ll still get to have the big St. Patrick’s Day dinner together. Enjoy!
Brandi – I’m so glad I never knew about this pinching craze. LOL
I’ll need to try one of those Shamrock Shakes next year. Sometimes not having something regularly makes me enjoy it more, like the Green Bean Casserole we have only on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I wear something green to celebrate St Patricks Day.
That’s the way to do it, Susan. Thanks for hopping by and commenting!
Hi Barbara. Thanks so much for participating in the hop. I love St. Patrick’s day. I usually make a special meal for dinner. I alternate between homemade fish and chips and corned beef and potatoes. For dessert I make something green…watergate salad, green “red” velvet cake, etc. I guess it is a given that with the last name Gallagher I am legally obligated to celebrate St. Patrick’s day.
Gin – with that last name, you definitely need to participate in the celebrations! I love the tradition of green desserts and may have to look into that for next year.
Thanks for hopping by and for co-hosting the blog hop. It’s been a fun week!
My hubby is Scots-Irish and I’m all German. We don’t do anything out of the ordinary for either; probably have more German influence with Christmas traditions. When my daughter was younger she was in an Irish dance group so we went to a lot of competitions and parades. Now, the kids celebrate with green beer, while I get a green McShake 😉
I am not Irish but since my kids were growing up I wore green and also reminded them all 15 years to wear green or they would get pinched . But my husband and I love the corned beef and cabbage even when its not St. Pat and I send out a few cards to the grandkids and close friends . My chiwauwaus love corned beef so anytime i cook it they eat all their dinner so does my hubby.
I enjoy the holidays but have dialed it down since the kids are grown, we especially like to have meals or foods based on the given holiday and I love baking
C-Jay – I’m with you on skipping the beer. Someone mentioned the shake earlier, and I really need to give that a try next year. Only 355 or so days to go. 😉
Peggy – that’s the way to get everyone to clean their plates. LOL
It’s funny, we do occasionally have corned beef and cabbage on other days, but most years, it’s only on St. Patrick’s Day. We used to be that way with turkey, too, but now I eat it a lot more often on salads, etc. The green bean casserole is still only for Thanksgiving and Christmas – and sometimes New Year’s. I think not eating some of these things on a regular basis really makes us appreciate them when we *do* have them.
Thanks for dropping by!
I love to bake, too, Jennifer, but as I’m the one who eats most of what I bake, that can become a very dangerous pastime. I still do it, though, especially around the holidays.
Thanks for dropping in!
I don’t celebrate St Paddy’s. Day but I do wear green so I don’t get pinched.
A few people have mentioned this pinching thing, Tammy. I’m so glad I never knew about it before–and that I always wore my green!
Thanks for hopping by.
