Choose one good thing #motivation #inspiration #positivity #WednesdayWisdom
You know that saying about the glass being half-full or half-empty? Mine’s often half-empty, cracked, and rapidly leaking!
Which makes it very odd that this post is all about positivity. 🙂
As I said to a reader who commented on last week’s Wednesday Wisdom column, I’ve been practicing looking for the positives.
A few months back, my dear husband (DH) and I began asking each other something over the dinner table:
“What one good thing happened to you today?”
Such a simple question.
And it has made a monumental difference in the way I look at everything.
At first it was wonderful to have one positive bit of news to tell my DH. I’ve shared such things with him as:
Receiving a thumbs-up from my editor on a new story idea. Having a reader tell me she loved my latest book. Finding a twenty-dollar bill in a wallet I hadn’t used in forever. Getting rerouted at the grocery store to be first in line when another cash register opened. (Okay, okay – I lead a very uneventful life. LOL)
On many days, I’d have my “one good thing” for my DH all set by 10 a.m.
But then something weird happened. . .
After a while, two things began popping up in the same day. Then three. And then four. This left me with the fabulous dilemma of having to decide which one good thing I’d choose to share at supper.
Of course, as we all know, I hadn’t suddenly found a lucky charm leading me to all this positivity. I’d gone in search of it.
And last week’s post? The rest of my response to the reader’s comment is absolutely true: “. . . so far [practicing positivity] seems to be like exercise for the mind – the more I work out, the stronger the habit is becoming.”
If I can train my brain to produce results like these, you can too. Why not start now! Answer the oh-so-simple question – for yourself, at least, though I’d really love for you to share your thought in a comment below. 😉
