Wednesday Wisdom – Luck #quotes #motivation #MFRWauthor
For today’s Wednesday Wisdom, here’s a brief quote with a big punch, appropriate for this month of March:
“I say luck is
when an opportunity comes along
and you’re prepared for it.”
– Denzel Washington
If we wait until the perfect opportunities arise to make the most of our dreams and goals, we may discover we’ve missed the boat. We may be left standing and watching those dreams and goals sail past us, quickly moving out of reach.
Considering my writing life began at about the time I learned to hold a crayon, I spent a long apprenticeship preparing to become an author. Many times – after many rejections – my dreams did seem out of my reach. And at other times, discouragement led me to let some opportunities slip by. But I like to think I learned from my mistakes.
Or, as I say over at my website, maybe it was just pigheadedness. 😉
In any case, I kept on plotting and planning and plugging away.
On the day “The Call” came that led to my first sale, I was ready when the editor asked if I had a story in mind for another character who played a role in the book she wanted to acquire.
Yes, I had another story in mind and had already started writing it. As a result, my first sale doubled to become a contract for two books.
Preparedness plus opportunity, with some perseverance thrown in.
That’s the groundwork for making your own luck.
What goal are you attempting to reach, and what are you doing to prepare for it?
All my best,
Barbara
