Monday Mix: Rocked my world! #MFRWauthor #earthquake #gratitude
The Earth moved for me last night….
Yes, I’m a romance author. And no, that’s not a line from my work-in-progress.
Last night, the state of Arizona was hit by three earthquakes ranging from 3.2-4.1 on the scale. Minor, one online source reported. Well, they didn’t seem minor to me!
I was sitting in the dining room – reading, what else – when the wall three feet away from me and the ground beneath me shook. I thought a small plane had hit the house. Or something in the area had exploded. Or maybe I was delusional and needed help.
Immediately, I ran to wake up my husband, who hadn’t felt a thing.
He went back to bed; I went back to reading.
A few minutes later, my world rocked again, with not quite the same jolt this time.
Forgetting how in-the-minute online news and social media are, I didn’t think about turning on the television or computer. Instead, I waited. When nothing else occurred, I went to bed, expecting to find out the details in the morning.
And so I did.
It looks as though we were on the perimeter of the quakes and, so far, I haven’t heard of any damage in my area or, thankfully, any major injuries to anyone here or at the epicenter. But this event really made me think.
We never know when we’ll be in the wrong place at the wrong time or when our number will be up. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow. We should be grateful for what we have today.
Stay safe, and think about counting your blessings. I’ve already made a long list of mine.
All my best,
Barbara
