Wednesday Wisdom: the wise man and the fool
“The wise man does at once what the fool does finally.”
– Niccolo Machiavelli
I can sum up this quote in one word: procrastination!
You may come up with a different meaning for the quote, but procrastination works for me, maybe because lately I’ve been guilty of putting things off. (In my defense, I was down for the count with a cold for the past couple of weeks….)
Have you ever delayed doing something, only to find your procrastination made the situation worse instead of better? I thought so.
On the other hand, have you ever decided to tackle something you thought would be a huge project, only to find it took about a tenth of the time you’d expected? Me, too.
The worst thing is about procrastinating is when we spend more time avoiding something than it would actually take to do whatever it is we’ve been putting off. As an example, organizing the piles of paper from my last work-in-progress, which are still piled on the card table in my living room even though I’m well into the next manuscript…
So here’s my challenge: let’s get something done!
This week, I’m tackling the card table.
You pick – and share, if you like – one thing you’ve been ignoring. Either way, feel free to report back here to brag about your success. Good luck!
All my best,
Barbara
