So simple, yet so profound:
“I am your constant companion. I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden. I will push you onward or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command. Half the things you do you might as well turn over to me, and I will be able to do them quickly, correctly. I am easily managed—you must merely be firm with me. Show me exactly how you want something done, and after a few lessons I will do it automatically. I am the servant of all great people; and alas, of all failures as well. Those who are failures, I have made failures. I am not a machine, though I work with all the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a human being. You many run me for a profit or turn me for ruin—it makes no difference to me.
Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet.
Be easy with me and I will destroy you.
Who am I?
I am habit.”

Every sentence in the quote above speaks to me. One of my favorite lines is this:
“Show me exactly how you want something done, and after a few lessons I will do it automatically.”
Short and sweet, this says to me that habit follows my lead. I have the power to decide whether to take it in a positive or a negative direction.
Which line do you like best from the quote, and what does it mean to you?
All my best to you,
Barbara

I like the last one. “I am habit.” I need some good ones. lol
Edie – that makes two of us. (And it’s why I keep reading my own Wednesday blog posts. LOL)
Thanks for stopping by.

I like the last part where it says be firm and I will place the world at your feet or be easy and I will destroy you.
Very true. I better get busy on the good habits. smile
Have a good day.
Sandra – you’ve picked another part that I like very much, too.
Thanks for posting, and good luck with your good habits.
